American electronics company Eaton has announced that it has addressed a security vulnerability that allowed one of its researchers to remotely access thousands of smart alarm systems. The security vulnerability in question was found to be caused by Eaton’s SecureConnect system.
This security vulnerability in the SecureConnect system, which enables remote access and management of alarm systems, provides access to files, data, and user accounts. Experts point out that tools such as Burp Suite can easily exploit this vulnerability.
Experts claim that by infiltrating this system, an attacker could add a user and gain access to everything, including the registered user’s name, email address, and the location of every connected security alarm system. There are also allegations that due to this flaw, attackers may have remotely controlled Eaton’s cloud-connected security alarm systems.
Eaton confirmed in a security advisory published on its website that the flaw existed in the group access authorization systems. However, the company declined to provide information on whether alarm systems were remotely controlled as a result of this security vulnerability. The security company also did not disclose whether they have a logging system to identify issues arising from these vulnerabilities.
